About our speaker:

Joseph Manning, the William K. and Marilyn Milton Simpson Professor at Yale School of the Environment, is a scholar with expertise in History of Art. He explored "Analytical Papyrology," establishing a historical framework for Greco-Roman Egypt. Shifting to Hellenistic Mediterranean economic history, he focused on Ptolemaic Egypt. Manning currently studies climatic change and global societal responses since the last Ice Age, emphasizing complexity over simplification. His philosophy, outlined in "The Open Sea" (2018), stresses the necessity of teamwork in research.
